Almost every week we remove fresh bicycles from the canals and reunite them hopefully with a happy owner.
Consciously or unconsciously, drunk or sober, bicycles somehow regularly end up in the canal. If they have been in the canal for a while, we leave them there. This makes them an ideal hiding place for fish and sponges, mussels, and also canal life grows on these artificial reefs. But as soon as we spot fresh shiny bicycles, our volunteers are more than happy to take them out. The other day the volunteers fished out no less than 9 bikes from the canal during 1 clean-up! Volunteer Jos introduced a creative business card to let the happy but possibly surprised owners know who to thank ;-)
